Book Report

by Dee Peake Jun 24 (3 days ago) The large print book I brought to the June meeting was titled Portrait of An Unknown Woman. It was a fictional history of Sir Thomas More and his family. I never could realize what heretics feared, and knew they were burned for wanting a Bible in their language, but didn't understand why that was such a serious desire. The book manages to put this plot in perspective. Sir Thomas was a chancellor to King Henry VIII. He wanted to break from the Catholic Church, divorce his Queen and marry Anne Boleyn. Within Sir Thomas' own family there were love stories, skeletons in the closet, other secrets, as well as court intrigue. It seemed that Hans Holbein the famous artist was the catalyst to revealing the truth in the family. I felt the story plots were moving along at a good pace, and the connections were clearly defined. The computer helped me understand some terminology such as Plantagenet, but it was very interesting and I enjoyed it more than the Di Vinci Code. Dee Peake
